Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (Mar. 6, 2022) – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team played its second SCIAC game of the week on Saturday afternoon, testing itself against Occidental College.
While most of the Poets' success against first-place Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Wednesday night came early, this time Whittier was able to sprinkle some offense throughout the game having to contend with a strong and deadly Tigers attack. Sophomore goalie Haley Hughes-Gill (Shaker Heights, Ohio) worked with the line in front of her to make things tougher on the Tigers, and as Whittier got more familiar with its SCIAC opponent, the offense was able to make adjustments and tag Oxy with four goals in the fourth quarter, four of the final five to be scored by either team in regulation.
Sophomore midfielder Loren Sepulveda (Middleburg, Va.) got things started by scoring off a free position shot, her lone goal of the game though she also led the Poets with three ground balls. From there, goals came from junior attacker Georgia Bachiochi (Henderson, Nev.) and this week's SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Sam Nimmo (Pleasanton, Calif.), with Bachiochi scoring again in the game's final minute on the advantage. The juniors would each finish the game with a team-best three goals on nine combined shots.
Head Coach Sara Allison and the Poets will have a quick turnaround when they host Albion College on Sunday, Mar. 6 at 10 a.m.
