ORANGE, Calif. (Apr. 10, 2022) – The Whittier College women's lacrosse team had to contend with a fast start from Chapman University in Saturday's SCIAC rematch from the 2021-22 home opener, with the shorthanded Poets fighting to the final whistle despite coming up short of the season sweep.
Freshman midfielder Isa Delgado-Rojas (Montebello, Calif. / Westridge) broke out with two goals and an assist, while junior Payton Climer (Dallas, Texas / Booker T Washington) led Whittier with three goals. Though the Poets ultimately couldn't find the fire power to contend with Chapman, they did manage to rebound nicely in the third period, outscoring the Panthers, 3-2, with all three goals coming unanswered over the period's final seven minutes. Delgado-Rojas, along with juniors Loren Sepulveda (Middleburg, Va. / Foxcroft) and Chella Davidson (Portland, Ore. / St. Mary's Academy) accounted for Whittier's goals over this stretch, putting a dent into the Panthers' lead heading into the final period. Whittier also found some success on draw controls, with juniors Georgia Bachiochi (Henderson, Nev. Coronado) and Molly Landon (Escondido, Calif. / Mission Hills) earning four apiece while Bachiochi led Whittier with five ground balls.
Head Coach Sara Allison and the Poets will be back at home on Wednesday, Apr. 13 when they host California Lutheran University at 7 p.m.
