Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. (March 8, 2023) - Whittier dominated Redlands on a frigid Wednesday night, beating its SCIAC rival for the first time since 2012.
Redlands drew first blood with a goal just over two minutes into the game and even led through one quarter, 4-3.
The second quarter, however, was all Poets, with junior Loren Jade Sepulveda scoring more goals in the quarter (three) than the entire Bulldog team (two).
At halftime, Whittier held a 9-6 advantage.
In the second half, the Poets put the game even further out of reach, at one point leading by 10, which initiated a running clock.
Nine Poets scored in the match, led by seniors Samantha Nimmo and Loren Jade Sepulveda, who had five goals each.
Sepulveda was everywhere Wednesday night, also contributing nine ground balls, seven draw controls and four caused turnovers! The Virginia native is a strong contender once again for SCIAC Athlete of the Week.
Seniors Chella Davidson and Georgia Bachiochi led in the assists department with four and three, respectively.
Freshman Julie O'Brien also had a strong game, finishing with four ground balls, two draw controls, two caused turnovers and a goal.
Freshman Maddi Baldwin scored her first career point with a textbook assist on a goal by Nimmo to kick off the third quarter.
The Poets attempted twice as many shots as did the Bulldogs, 36-18. Whittier also committed far fewer turnovers than did Redlands: 14 compared to 26.
