VENTURA, Calif. (April 25, 2023) -  Sophomore Neeraj Shetty was incredible at the SCIAC Championships that concluded Tuesday, finishing second overall among all SCIAC men competing.

"(Performing so well) means the world to me," Shetty said. "I've always wanted to not only compete with the best but to beat them too."

After Day Two of the three-day tournament, the India native paced the men by posting two consecutive 69 rounds. 

On the final day, Shetty continued playing well, but his 68 score fell just two strokes shy of winner Michael Ordona of La Verne. Overall, Shetty shot 10 under par for the tournament, an incredible achievement for the sophomore!

"Obviously I would've liked to finish first, but I'm quite satisfied with where I finished considering it was my last ever tournament for Whittier College," Shetty said.

Shetty recorded 16 birdies, tied with two others for most among the men. He also tallied one eagle and 29 pars.

The tournament runner-up has enjoyed all the quality time he could this season with his teammates and spent Wednsday at Disneyland with some of them.

"It's been tough since after this school year we won't be on a team together," Shetty said.
