LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Feb. 12. 2024) – Sophomore
Yash Nagdev of the Whittier College men's tennis team has been named the sport's first SCIAC Athlete of the Week for 2024, encompassing the first two weeks of the regular season.
The sophomore is notable for being Whittier's first SCIAC Athlete of the Week in men's tennis since 2020. Matthew Yannuck '21, who finished his career as a graduate transfer last year at University of California, Riverside, is the last Poet to earn the honor.
Nagdev, Whittier's top singles player, would make it a perfect 2-0 against Hope International University last Saturday when he knocked off Hope's top singles player in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. He did this after taking out Hope's top doubles team alongside partner Joey Henderson, pulling out an 8-6 victory to give Whittier a 2-1 edge heading into singles play.
Nagdev and the Poets will continue the 2024 regular season when they compete at home against Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Feb. 17. The men's match will get underway at 1 p.m.
