LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2025) – Junior midfielder
Nicholas Coop (La Mirada, Calif. / La Mirada) of the Whittier College men's soccer team has been named SCIAC Athlete of the Week for his standout week in games against California Lutheran University and the University of Redlands.
Coop scored twice and made the difference for the Poets on the road against the Kingsmen. He also notched an impactful brace at the University of Redlands, a perennial SCIAC power. Trailing the Bulldogs 2-0 early, Coop created an answer for the Purple & Gold to halve the Bulldogs lead and position the visitors in a way that enabled them to get a well-earned 3-3 tie. He now finds himself among the SCIAC's top 10 leading scorers for the season at nearly the two-thirds point in the conference slate.
Coop and the Poets will have an opportunity to take sole possession of first place in the SCIAC if they can defeat Caltech at home on Wednesday night. Game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
