LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2025) – Sophomore diver
Miriam Brownell of the Whittier College women's swimming & diving team has been named SCIAC Diver of the Week for a second time this year thanks to her performance at Saturday's double-duat meet against the University of Redlands and Occidental College.
One week after setting the Whittier College program record, Brownell won the 3-meter competition as the Poets' lone representative against a trio from Occidental College, scoring a 226.80 to take it by more than 16 points. The sophomore finished a close second in a nail-biter on the 1-meter board with a 200.26 that was less than a point shy of victory. Dating back to her rookie season, Brownell is among the most improved divers in the conference, and should have plenty left to show in the coming years.
Brownell and the Poets are gearing up for the SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships, which are set to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
