GREENSBORO, N.C. (Mar. 23, 2025) – Sophomore men's swimming & diving standout
Thomas Langlois (Haut-Richelieu, QC, Canada / St. John's) capped off an incredible sophomore year at the Division III National Swimming & Diving Championships in Greensboro, N.C. over the weekend.
Langlois cemented himself as, just two years into his time in the swimming & diving program, one of the greatest male swimmers in Whittier College history, becoming an All-American in multiple events: the 1650 Free and the 500 Free.
Langlois' performances, which saw him take sixth in the Mile and 16th in the 500 Free, resulted in him and the Poets' men's team scoring 37th out of 47 teams to make the trek to Greensboro, and thus, 37th out of 222 male Division III programs in the nation. As for Langlois himself, he showed he could perform on the biggest stage with the brightest lights, improving his Whittier College record time in the 1650 Free to 15:33.32 and in the 500 Free to 4:29.80.
Meanwhile, Whittier's star sophomore succeeded in improving on his seeding in both events. In the 500 Free, he entered the event seeded 21st and went on to take 16th, giving him the last of the 16 allotted spots that make up All-American status in each event. Similarly, the French-Canadian entered the Mile seeded 10th in the nation and went on to finish four spots higher in sixth place. Not only will that make Langlois a legitimate contender for the 1650 Free national championship in a year from now, but he doubled the score he was seeded to achieve. Langlois came into the week seeded to score seven points, provided he could measure up to his ranking. Instead, he scored 14 points and showed a level of consistency all the while.
Langlois and the Poets should be primed to score even more points at the national meet next year, provided he is joined by one or multiple teammates on the men's and women's teams.
