David graduated from Claremont High School where he was an All League tackle. He attended Mt. San Antonio College for two years, being named All Conference lineman and Mountie Player of the Year. At Whittier College , where he was one of my Poets great centers, David earned two varsity football letters and was named All Conference SCIAC in 1967 and 1968. The same two years he was All District NAIA. In 1967 he received All American NAIA honorable mention and in 1968 was chosen first team. All American NAIA center. The Poets selected David as Player of the Year in 1968-69. He received the Newman/Bonham coaching award in 1984.

During David’s junior year he joined the U.S. Marine Corps program. He served for three years after graduation. He advanced to the rank of captain and saw one year of active duty in Vietnam.

In 1972, David was football line coach for John Godfrey and his championship team. He started his career as assistant coach at Bell Gardens High in 1973 and became head coach in 1977, His teams have won two league championships, were CIF finalists once and made the CIF playoff eight times.

The Los Angeles Times has twice named David high school Coach of the Year and the Southern California Publishing Company has honored him four times as Coach of the Year.

David holds a BA degree from Whittier and a Master’s degree from La Verne College. In addition to coaching, he teaches history. David and his wife have two daughters. They live in Whittier.
