Nani was Arvin High School’s outstanding woman scholar/athlete for 1977 and swim star for four years in the Central California Division. She placed in the valley finals in all of her high school years and earned two first place record setting finishes in her senior year.

Nani entered Whittier College in the Fall of 1977. She participated in volleyball, lettering in 1978-79. But it was in swimming that Nani excelled. She lettered in swimming in 1977-78, 1978-79, and 1979-80. She was named All-American in 1977-78 in the 200 IM freestyle and the 200 IM medley. Again in 1978-79, Nani was named All-American, this time in the 100 yard IM. She still holds the present Whittier College and SCIAC records for the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:16.37 and the 200 yard freestyle with a time 1:59.13. She also holds Whittier College records for the 100 yard freestyle, the 1650 yard freestyle, the 100 yard backstroke, the 200 yard medley relay and the 800 yard freestyle relay

Nani qualified for six events in the National Swimming and Diving championship events in the NAtional Swimming and Diving Championship events sponsored by the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women in 1977. In 1978, she qualified for six events at the First Annual AIAW Division III Swimming and Diving Championships and for four events at the NCAA Division II NAtionals in 1979.

Currently, Nani is a Registered Dietitian and acting food services specialist for the El Monte City School District and lives in Buena Park.
