  • Hailing from Commerce, California, Sergio attended Bell Gardens High School graduating in 1997

  • During his time at Whittier, Sergio was named First Team All-SCIAC three times; named American Water Polo Coaches Division III First Team All-American three times; SCIAC Player of the Year in 1998; First Team All-Western Water Polo Association in 1999, as well as WWPA Honorable Mention in 1998 and 2000

  • He was named Purple & Gold Freshman Athlete of the Year in 1997 and currently holds the Whittier College career goals scored record (417) 

  • Following graduation, he embarked on a coaching career starting with Commerce Aquatics, one of the top club programs in the nation. He then took over a struggling Montebello High School program and in his four years, he led the boy’s and girl’s teams to three consecutive league championships and the boy’s team won back-to-back CIF championships

  • Macias was named CIF Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2004, Los Angeles Times Coach of the Year in 2003 and Whittier Daily News Coach of the Year in 2004

  • At Cerritos College, he runs the women’s water polo coaching duties and has amassed an impressive 226-61 record! In 2008, he guided the Lady Falcons to a state championship and has won five South Coast Conference Championships 

  • Sergio has been named South Coast Conference Coach of the Year five times and was named Community College State Water Polo Coach of the Year in 2008

  • Currently serves as the Community College Vice President for Women’s Water Polo, and is the Physical Education Department Chair at Cerritos College

  • Sergio also is a SCAF water polo official and was selected to referee the National Junior Olympic Tournaments in 2013 and 2014
