  • Lew came to Whittier College from Sierra High School where he played Basketball and ran Cross Country and Track, setting records in the Half-Mile and 440

  • For 4 years Lew ran Cross Country and Track on the Poet teams 

  • In 1965 Lew set a new SCIAC record of 1:53.0 in the half-mile rim

  • He was a member of the 2 mile relay team that set a school record of 7:56.6 in 1966 and set a school record in the 880 at 1:51.4 at Riverside in 1967

  • He won the NAIA District III mile in 4:11.9 for an All District record

  • At the 1967 National meet, he came in 5th, tying Russ Bonham’s mile record of 4:10.5 and earning All American Recognition

  • He was selected Athlete of the Year by Whittier in 1966-67

  • In 1967 he set a school record in the 2 mile with a time of 9:25.3

  • He was captain of the Varsity Cross Country and Track teams in 1966-67

  • Lew served in the U.S Air Force from 1969-72

  • He started his teaching career in the Whittier Union School District in 1973 where he taught Physical Education, coached Cross Country and Track and taught Social Studies

  • He was administrator of the school-wide reading program and developed a highly successful program and manual for disabled readers

  • He received both his BA and MA degrees from Whittier College

  • Lew is married to Maarilyn Graham, class of 1967 and they have two sons
