Ross came to the Poets from Claremont High School where he earned varsity letters in football and track.

At Whittier College, Ross won three varsity letters in football and two in Track. He served as captain of the 1968 football team.

Ross was elected All SCIAC First Team Offensive Back 1966, 1967 and 1968 was chosen He holds the Poet Career rush record of 2,484 yards and tied the season record for scoring with 78 points in nine games in 1968.

Ross received NAIA and AP All American Honorable Mention in 1957 and in 1968 was chosen Poet Co-Athlete of the Year. He was elected Southern California Sports Writers College Player of the Week in November 1968.

Ross is currently Athletic Director of Rowland Heights Unified School District where he has coached football, golf and taught Physical Education for 17 years. His coaching has produced several championship football teams. 

Ross and his wife have two daughters. They reside in La Verne.
