Bill Rich was not College Educated but his Financial Assistance helped more than 40 Whittier College Students Complete their education. Through the Southern Counties Gas Co., of which he was manager, jobs were provided. Without his assistance and counseling, few would have obtained their degrees

He and Mrs. Rich assisted several students financially in times of emergencies and helped Whittier College in many ways. He founded the howling hundred, a booster organization made up of Whittier Business and Professional people. He served on the Whittier City Council and was Chairman of the City’s first recreation commission. Whittier College Athletes of the 1920s and 1930s and the City of Whittier never had a better friend than Bill Rich.
