After graduation, Jack entered the U.S Navy as an Ensign in the Supply Corps and enrolled in the Harvard Business School

During his 32 year naval career, Jack served on 3 different ships, had 3 tours of duty in Washington, D.C and received his MBA degree from Stanford before retiring at the rank of Rear Admiral in 1974

After his military career, Jack spent an additional 8 years as Senior Vice President for Ponderosa restaurants
