Josie graduated from Mountain View High School in El Monte and attended Rio Hondo College before coming to Whittier College. At Whittier, she led the Poet cross country and track teams with her outstanding records, lettering in both sports 1979-80 and 1980-8.
As a Cross Country runner, Josie was named All Conference SCIAC in 1979-80 and again in 1980-81. She competed in the AIAW Nationals at the end of the 1980-81 season, being the first Whittier College woman ever to qualify for cross country nationals.
In track, Josie excelled in the distance races. She broke several Whittier College track records, including the 1500 meter with a time of 5:01, the 3000 meter with a time of 10:23, the 50000 meter with a time of 15:19, and the 10,000 meter with a time of 38:30. All of these records still stand today. Josie was named All-SCIAC in 1979-80 and 1980-81 for the 1500 and 3000 meter races. In 1979-80, she participated in the AIAW Track Nationals, qualifying for the 5,000 and 10,000 meter events.
Josie currently lives in Capistrano Beach with her husband John and children Nicholas and Adriana.
