Gary came to the Poets from Bell High School where he earned three letters in baseball. At Whittier he won letters in baseball in 1964, 1965, and 1966. He was All Conference SCIAC pitcher in 1965 and 1966. As a senior in 1966, he served as team captain, was elected Most Valuable Player and was chosen for the All District NAIA First team. His Poet career record was 20 wins, 7 losses and 4 saves.

In 1966, Gary was naed to the SCIAC team traveling to Haarlem, the Netherlands for the International Baseball Tournament where he pitched for 4 wins and 0 losses. He was named Most Valuable Player in the tournament after giving up only three hits in two games with 38 strikeouts in 18 innings.

Gary played professional baseball with the NEw York Yankees organization from 1976 to 1972 and the Cleveland Indians from 1972 until he retired in 1973. While under contract to the Yankees, Gary pitched for the Syracuse Chiefs of International Lague (AAA) and the Ponce, Puerto Rico Winter League Team. He pitched for the New York Yankees major league team during the 1970 and 1971 seasons.

With his wife and two children, Gary resides in Anaheim where he is general contractor and real estate developer.
