From Garfield High School in Los Angeles, Bill was an All Eastern League tackle. From 1946-47 he attended East Los Angeles Junior College, transferring to Whittier College in 1947.

 

As an undergraduate he ws on teams coached by Chief Wallace Newman and was All Conference SCIAC guard on the second team in 1947 as well as on the first teams in 1948 and 1949, when he was captain.

From 1949-50 Bill was president of the Varsity Club and in 1950 was listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities.

After graduation Bill was assistant football coach at the College from 1950-54. During the following years, 1951-81, he was a teacher, principal and administrator in the El Rancho Unified School District. During this period he returned to Whittier College for his Master’s Degree, which he earned in 1959.
