Ron came to Whittier College from Whittier High School, where he excelled in Football, Basketball, and Baseball and was selected Athlete of the Year in 1961. He was All League in basketball and football and received a $12,000 bonus offer from the Cincinnati Reds.
After a year at Cerritos College, where he received All Conference first team running back and J.C. All American honors, Ron came to Whittier College, earning three varsity letters in football and three in baseball. Playing in three SCIAC championship teams, he was twice named All Conference back first team , twice All Coast first team and All District first team in 1964. He was co-captain of the football team in 1964 and the baseball team in 1965. He was also named SCIAC Player of the Year in 1964 and Poet Athlete of the Year in 1965.
Ron received his MA from Whtitier in 1968. Serving as P.E Department chairman, teacher and coach in the Whittier High School District, his teams have won three championships and were six times in the CIF playoffs. He was named Whitmont League Coach of the Year in 1979 and received the Newman/Bonham Award in 1983.
He is married to Kathy Lokken Hales and they have ason, Mark and a daughter, kristen. They live in Brea.
