Maryann entered Whittier College after graduating from College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, California where she won many swimming honors and was co-captain of the varsity men-women’s swimming team. 

At Whittier College, Maryann earned four letters in women’s swimming. In 1976-77, Maryann took first place in the 200 yard individual medley, the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle as well as taking second place in the breaststroke in the SCIAC meet. She was chosen All SCIAC First Team in 1976 and 1977. 

In 1977-78, Maryann was part of the winning team for the 200 yard medley relay and won first place in the 800 yard freestyle, the 400 yard freestyle, the 500 yard event setting a meet record of 5:22.5, and the 100 yard butterfly with a meet record time of 1:03.8. She also took second in the 200 yard individual medley.

She was selected NAIA All American swimmer in the 200 yard event in 1976-77 and again in the 400 yard event in 1977-78.

Maryann Courtois-Horsley is married and lives in Fremont, California where she works as a systems support manager.
