  • John came to the Poets from Sierra HS where he was an outstanding athlete in Football, Basketball and Baseball

  • He attended Rio Hondo College 1 year, playing on the new college’s first Football team

  • John earned 3 varsity letters in both Football and Baseball at Whittier College

  • All SCIAC 1st Team in Football and baseball, 1969-70

  • All District NAIA 2nd Football Team, 1969-70

  • In 1970 John started teaching and coaching at Sierra HS and was at Neff High from 1972-81 where his Football teams were league champs five times

  • Twice his team went to the CIF semifinals and won the CIF Championship once

  • He coached Baseball 2 years, winning the league championship both years and going once to the CIF semifinals 

  • He also coached wrestling for 3 years

  • John moved on in 1981 to become defensive coordinator for the varsity Football team at La Mirada High winning 5 league titles

  • He coached Golf for 3 years winning 3 league championships with a ranking of 12th in the state and a 2nd for an individual

  • John also holds an M. Ed. Degree from Azusa Pacific College
