John Fitzsimons had an outstanding sports career at Whittier College. As a soccer player, he was named First Team All SCIAC all four years; in addition, he was the team’s Most Valuable Player for 1980-81 and 1981-82; team co-MVP for 1982-83; SCIAC Player of the Year for 1981-82 and 1982-83, and Whittier College male athlete of the Year in 1983.
Following graduation from Whittier College, John’s semi-pro and professional career included stints with the Long Beach Tornadoes of the Southern California Professional Soccer League, 1984-86; the San Pedro Yugoslavs of the Greater Los Angeles Soccer League, 1987-89; and the California Kickers of the Western Soccer League, 1989.
John’s employment record reflects his continued involvement in and love for sports. While still a student at Whittier College he served as assistant soccer coach at St. John Bosco High School from 1981-83; he subsequently became a social studies teacher there and continued his assistant coaching responsibilities, becoming St. John Bosco’s varsity head coach in 1987. John has served as a chairman of the Social Studies department since 1992. Additional coaching responsibilities have included: assistant and head soccer coach at Whittier college, 1985-1988; CIF/AAF instructor, 1990 to the present; assistant coach at Pomona-Pitzer College, 1990 and 1991; head Coach of the under-15 boys for Claremont Stars Soccer Club, 1991-present.
