Steve came to the poets from Bell High School where he earned two varsity letters in baseball and two in football. He was named All Eastern League pitcher. He pitched two consecutive no-hit games in 1958.

Steve earned varsity baseball letters at Whittier College in 1960, 196 and 1962. He was chosen All Conference pitcher in 1961 and 1962. Steve set a NAIA record in 1961 with 144 strike outs in 80 innings (an average of 16.2 strikeouts per 9 innings) including 21 in 8 innings against Claremont Mudd in his first Varsity game. With Steve’s help, the 1961 Poet baseball team was conference champion with a 14-1 record.

Steve was a member of the Lancer Society.

After graduation, Steve played professional baseball from 1962 to 1971. He was a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, the Washington Senators and the Kansas City Royals.

Steve is currently vice president of Home Federal Savings Bank of Tennessee. He is also a CPA. He continues to coach high school age teams in summer youth programs.

Steve is married and has twin daughters and a son. He and his family reside in Knoxville, Tennessee.
