One of the most influential coaches in the long and storied history of the game of football, George Allen spent five years at Whittier College where he coached the football team, as well as the baseball team.

Coached at Whittier College from 1951-56 with a record of 32-22-1 (.593)

  • Served as coach for the Los Angeles Rams and then Chicago Bears before returning to the Rams and earning a record of 49-17-2 in 1966

  • Became head coach and General Manager of the Washington Redskins and amassed a record of 69-29-2 from 1971-1977

  • Continued coaching and went on to work with the Chicago Blitz and Arizona Wranglers

  • Four time NFL *Coach of the Year*

  • With a winning record 70.5%, George Allen ranks as the second best in the league among coaches who coached more than 10 years and is the only NFL coach of that time span not to have a losing season 

  • Known as an innovator, he is responsible for hiring the first special teams coach ever

  • Developed the first self contained training complex, Redskin Park

  • Responsible for originating and popularizing the modern version of the “nickle” and “dime” defenses

  • Served as chairman of President Reagan’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports

  • Retired from active coaching in 1984

  • Inducted as a Honorary Member 1989.
